In a joint collaborative effort among Future Earth, Greening of Industry Network (Series Editor), Springer-Nature Group (Book Publisher), and the Editors (Prof. Aldo Ometto; Prof. Joseph Sarkis, and Prof. Steve Evans), we are organizing two webinars focused on a newly-launched book: “A Systemic Transition to Circular Economy: Business and Technology Perspectives.”

The first webinar will dive into a few of the chapters which will cover topics including socio-technical innovations and ecological transitions; the importance of circular economy in Hewlett-Packard’s Sustainable Impact Strategy; Unilever’s circular economy strategy.

Chapter 1: Introduction – Circular Economy as a Part of the New and Sustainable Economy in the Twenty-first Century

This chapter introduces the context, justification, and goal of this edited book. The ultimate goal is to present fundamental knowledge and practical insights into the circular economy related to business and technology. The book champions a value-based approach and a system perspective in order to support sustainable innovation with effective positive impacts. This chapter also comments on the content of the works, presenting the authors, title, highlights, and integrative nature of the chapters. The book can be read and evaluated holistically or separately as chapters.

Specialist in Project Management from Mauá and completed a Doctorate Sandwich at the University of Cambridge (2020). MBA course professor at Fundação Vanzolini and FIPE since 2014, and Consultant and Instructor in Project Management and Construction Management at Omnicomm Soluções Empresariais Ltda since 2012. Over 10 years of experience leading Project, Program, and Portfolio Management initiatives, driving Innovation and Sustainability, and achieving significant improvements in organizational efficiency and negotiation outcomes.

 

Chapter 9: Circular Economy in the Paperboard Industry: Ibema Cases

Speaker: Diego Gracia

Diego Gracia is the International Business Manager at Ibema Papelcartão, with over 15 years of expertise in international trade. Previously, as Manager of Strategy and Marketing, he led the company’s rebranding efforts and positioned it as a key player in the circular economy within the paperboard industry. Diego has extensive experience managing multicultural teams and developing growth strategies across South America and globally. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Postgraduate degree in International Business from FAE Business School.

Chapter 10: Circular Economy Principles in Urban Agri-Food Systems: Potentials and Implications for Environmental Sustainability

Speaker: Susana Toboso-Chavero

Susana Toboso Chavero holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Technology from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). She is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Erasmus University Rotterdam and Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands), working on the Sino-Dutch project Inclusive Wise Waste Cities. She was a postdoctoral researcher in the Sostenipra Research Group at ICTA-UAB working on urban metabolism and the environmental and social assessment of the ERC Consolidator project Integrated System Analysis of Urban Vegetation and Agriculture. She is currently working on different research related to the application of circular economy strategies in urban waste management systems and textile sector. She has participated as a lecturer in different subjects, as well as in the supervision of more than 20 master theses. Her expertise includes the analysis of systems from an environmental and social perspective using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Social Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA), and Societal and Ecosystem Metabolism (MuSIASEM).
