RECAP

Showcasing and Agenda Setting Workshop March 3, 2021

The March 3 event was a great opportunity for new SC members and KAN members to be updated about accomplishments and plans of 5 WGs. Some highlights: Most WGs reported publication of joint papers, book chapters and development of project proposals for funding.  The PE, CE and Social Change WGs have organized numerous webinars on their respective themes. Some action-oriented activities included development of policy briefs (PE WG), engaging EU Commissioner in developing curriculum for CE (CE WG) and empowering youth for global eco-leadership (CoCo WG).  A prospectus for integrating a communications perspective in projects is being proposed by CoCo WG, a case study protocol is being developed by Cities WG and teaching methodologies are being explored by Social Change WG.

Some ideas for future directions were also shared: developing KAN-wide policy briefs, joint grant applications, reaching out to practitioners and using justice and equity as a shared theme. Finally, WGs were keen on exploring linkages between the groups and with the whole KAN.  For a more detailed recap, live notes and SC sign-ups to WGs can be found HERE.

 UPDATE

#action slack channel created for conversations about how to do more of the A (action) in the KAN

Vibrant exchanges in this channel led to a LIVE GOOGLE DOCUMENT containing a review of SSCP KAN’s Research and Engagement Plan, a listing of past and ongoing action initiatives, ideas for future actions and a proposed framework/model for the KAN’s approach to action-oriented activities.   A call was organized on April 16, 2021 to sift through the ideas and proposals. A summary of the discussions and a listing of more than a dozen action-oriented ideas from the channel can be found HERE.

This news Xchange will be regularly published in order to share information about the WG and KAN initiatives.  We hope that this can facilitate interaction and synergy among WGs and stimulate more activities of the KAN. WGs and SC members are invited to share calls for joint research, announcements of KAN events, info on publications by KAN members, and other news/activities of SSCP KAN and Future Earth. The frequency will depend on the availability of content, but we aim for a quarterly newsletter. Content should be sent to masami.oka@futureearth.org.
